Introducing ICJ at Royal Russell School International Model United Nations Conference
The International Court of Justice is a division of the United Nations. Mr. Stern’s Model ICJ has been a great success since its inception over twenty years ago. It is loosely based on the procedures stated in the International Court of Justice RULES OF COURT and also follows legal principles established in the United States and England. The case selected will be one that is currently pending before the International Court of Justice. Participants will have the opportunity to hone a variety of skills, practically applying them to the case at hand. Tangible documents and papers, as well as witness statements, will be presented as evidence by the advocates, and the judges will deliberate for several hours before reaching a just verdict. That verdict will then be put in writing in the form of a judgment with majority and dissenting opinions for all to see. It is a very exciting, rewarding experience for everyone involved.
