In January 2026, a group of Royal Russell pupils attended the prestigious THIMUN Conference in The Hague, a key United Nations city, joining around 3000 other pupils from all around the world to debate on global issues. Rohan Phillpot (Ambassador), Keira Rudich-Goodbody, Jacob Wu, Logan Hatchwell–Wray and Rayhaan Kufuor-Gray represented Montenegro with enthusiasm and conviction. Rohan and Rayhaan presented excellent opening speeches in the Disarmament and International Security Committee and the Human Rights Commission respectively. Keira made a great speech on a resolution addressing early and forced marriage and its implications on the rights of women and children. Logan submitted an amendment on the question of threats on Human Rights Defenders. Rohan wrote and debated an excellent resolution on the Protection of cultural heritage in armed conflicts and occupied territories. After a very convincing speech as the main submitter and some thorough debate, the resolution was passed with a resounding majority. Johan Prinsloo was chosen as Deputy President in the Human Rights Commission where he displayed great organisational, diplomatic and leadership skills in ensuring smooth and productive debates. On Wednesday all enjoyed a fun evening of glow mini golf and Italian tasty dishes, a welcome break in a very busy programme. Attending the conference provided a great opportunity for all participants to meet other people, make new friends, share ideas and gain valuable skills.
