12 Royal Russell students travelled to Istanbul for the very well organised, THIMUN affiliated, Robert College MUN conference, along with students from over 80 different schools and 25 different countries. The Royal Russell students were very successful with the USA and Germany delegations making a huge impact. With over a day set aside for lobbying it was a sign of our success that Tighearnán, Georgia, Maria, David, Sam and Daniel all managed to lobby, merge and then act as main submitter and first speaker on their resolutions. Georgia went on to present her resolution, one of only 4 debated, in the GA whilst Tighearnán and Maria were first yield in other GA debates. All of our students spoke many times in committee, although the successful Security Council pair of David and Barty must have broken some sort of record taking the floor or asking points of information over 200 times. Despite a busy conference our students still managed to visit the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya, hunt down bargains in the Grand Bazaar and enjoy an evenings cruise on the Bosphorus.
